A child's learning does not always move in a straight line. Sometimes suddenly and without warning, go back. It happens for example before the arrival of a little brother. The child goes back to find his pacifier, takes out the toys he had saved or peeps again. Suddenly he behaves like a baby again. It is what is called 'regression'.

Why regression occurs in children

There are many reasons why the child suddenly returns to its first stage. Suddenly one day, the child, who already controlled the pee and poop, needs a diaper again. Parents sometimes get angry tienden and tend to scold him. But, this is a mistake. The child who is asking many times with this attitude is more attention from their parents. Among the reasons why this happens and there is a regression in the child, are:

-

The arrival of a little brother: jealousy appears and the older child tries to capture the attention of the parents, who at that moment They are turning more with the care of the newborn. -

The fear of growing: the regression occurs mostly between 3 and 5 years, when the child stops being such a child. It usually coincides with the beginning of his preschool stage. Suddenly a series of tasks are demanded, as adults, and the child feels fear of failure. -

Start going to school: andthe fear of the unknown appears . The world of adults scares him and he prefers to return to his first stage, when he was a baby and hardly demanded anything.-

The death of a relative: when the child is very young, he does not understand the meaning of death. If suddenly someone with whom the child had a great relationship disappears from his life, he may feel disoriented . Regression is in this case a way to search for that person who has just lost.-

Problems in the relationship between the parents: when the child does not find stability in the home and presence constant fights, fear and insecurity appear. And sometimes it manifests itself in this way, with a reversal of the learning acquired until that moment. Symptoms of regression in children

There may be one or more alarm signals. Most often, the child who suffers from regression returns to urinate on top of it, or suddenly begins to talk like a baby, getting rid of all the words and skills he had acquired with language. You may simply start playing with rattles and baby items or ask for a pacifier and walk around the house with him.

The symptoms are clear and obvious: when our son imitates his little brother or baby and begins to behave like him, there is regression.

What can we do when the child suffers regression

We have to try to understand the reasons that have led the child to behave like this. Once the origin of this disorder is located, we can try to solve it. Sometimes regression has no reason. It happens

simply because the child needs to take a break in his evolution and decides to take a step back. Nothing happens. We must understand it as something natural and be understanding. And how can we help you ?: - Avoid saying negative phrases like 'you look like a baby, and you are old enough to do that nonsense'.

- Play more with him.

Devote more time Often they are just demanding that: more time from their parents. - Do not scold

or get angry with the child . It is annoying to have to start over with pee control or have to correct him again every time he talks like he was two years old, but you have to be patient.-

Do not imitate him . Do not use the words he uses to feel 'baby' again. Correct him but without getting angry.
