Fable of the hen and the pig

Drinking a hen
from a brook,
at each drink raised
the view to Heaven,
and with the beak
thank you gave to who made
liquor so rich.

What is that? growled a pig,
What does
such a ridiculous grimace mean?
and she replies:
Nothing, neighbor.
Gratitude is Greek
for a pig.

But there is no noble soul
who does not thank
even a drop of water
to be offered;
and even the chicken
feels the inexhaustible
divine goodness.
