The lingual frenum, is a membrane that is located under the tongue, and that sometimes is shorter than it should be. In these cases, the frenulum prevents the tongue from moving correctly, making difficult the child's speech and even swallowing.

This problem, if it is not very pronounced, can be solved with some exercises that we can do at home to lengthen the lingual frenulum.

How to lengthen the lingual frenulum of the children

The exercises that are done so that the lingual frenulum is as long as possible (necessary only in case its size makes it difficult to swallow or speak well) are simpler to do than what they seem and can be most fun, so there is no excuse to try to make them from home.

These exercises can be practiced from the moment when the child or the child already has some awareness of the parts of the mouth and can do things like take a yogurt or brush your teeth without the help of mom or dad.

For the exercise to be effective we need:

1. Tip of the tongue touching behind the upper teeth.

2. Engage most of the tongue in the palate.

3. Open your mouth as much as possible keeping conditions 1 and 2.

Doing this exercise funny noises, and the more we open the mouth the stronger will come out (since the cheeks act as a sounding board).

The idea is to hold the positionjust before the sound comes out or the tongue falls out. The ideal is to hold a few seconds and rest. The longer we hold before the tongue disengages, the more exercise we will be doing. The most popular y exercise that can best be understood is that of making the noise of the

galloping horse . The horse begins to gallop and after a while it gets tired and slows down, so that each time the tongue needs to be more time attached to the palate so that the horse continues to move but at a more reduced pace. To increase the difficulty and when you have mastered the game of the horse, you can stop the time and stay frozen con, with the condition that it is just before the tongue makes the noise. Count the fingers (to avoid speaking) and try to increase the difficulty by lengthening more and more the time you are still and with your tongue hooked up.Another important condition to keep in mind: when we return to normality and we stop being frozen, the first thing we should hear is the noise of the horse. Empe Start practicing and notice how the language reaches you higher and higher! This means that the lingual frenulum lengthens little by little.
