We talk about playing truant, going for a pint, getting caught ... in short, eloping from school. It is when a child decides unilaterally not to attend class without an apparent reason to justify that decision.

Normally, children miss class to avoid facing a difficult situation that will take place in the school during that day, such as doing an exam, presenting a work, sharing the homework, making an oral presentation, seeing friends with whom you have discussed, interact with teachers with whom there is not a good relationship, etc. However, there are also children who aim to make truants simply stay at home to have fun doing activities such as watching TV, playing video games, sleeping, etc. But, how to detect from school that children run away from class?

How can the teacher detect if the student has played truant?

When the child trumps or runs away from class frequently, we would be talking about school absenteeism. Today we know that missing a class is directly related to a drop in the academic performance of the child, so it is a situation that deserves special attention from parents and teachers.

Being a teacher is not an easy task since they do not limit themselves to teaching the corresponding subjects, but their work goes much further.

They are continuously observing children and supervising what happens in the classroom. They offer support to those students who, at a certain moment, may encounter difficulties or problems at school, help them to resolve conflicts with those they may encounter, encourage them to have fun learning and encourage coexistence in the classroom to be appropriate.

It is important that teachers are on alert and detect if children are truant or absconding, so that the frequency of absences does not increase and becomes a problem of school absenteeism, or if instead they have missed class for some justified reason.

How to detect from school that children run away from class

If a child is missing on one occasion, it is not necessary to give it more importance. However, if the child is absent more than two or three times, in a short period of time, the teacher should first talk with the parents to know the reason. And, secondly, if there is no clear reason, it is advisable that the teacher asks a series of questions:

- Is it possible that the child is running away from class?

- What could have caused the child not to attend school?

- Is it possible that you have done steers to avoid an exam or any other situation in which you were going to be evaluated?

- Could it be that he has difficulties with his peers?

- Is there a teacher with whom you do not have an adequate relationship or have had an argument with?

- Is it possible that you have learning difficulties?

If the teacher concludes that the child has been able to play truant for one of these reasons, it is best to have a relaxed conversation with the child in order to offer their help to find solutions to what concerns them or prevents going to school normally.
