We always tell expectant mothers that pregnancy is health, and in most cases it is. However, there are certain circumstances linked to pregnancy that make women need to have relative or absolute rest, un or special care. We will analyze the most frequent situations that prevent the pregnant woman from leaving the house. Situations that prevent the pregnant woman from leaving home

-

Risk of abortion :By definition it would be any vaginal bleeding of a pregnant woman that occurs during the first trimester of pregnancy (always with a present fetal heartbeat); in these cases we usually recommend
relative rest , not having intercourse with sex, and trying to reduce maternal stress.-

Hyperémesis gravídica :It is the presence of persistent nausea and vomiting, whose main risk is
the dehydration of the mother . It is usually frequent in twin pregnancies, high maternal stress and is related to an increase in the hormone HCG typical of pregnancy. In these situations it is normal for the woman to lose weight, and may even faint or get dizzy. Sometimes they require hospital admission for intravenous hydration, if the woman is not able to keep anything ingested. Symptoms are usually more intense between 2 and 12 weeks of pregnancy, and remit to the second half of pregnancy. We recommend that the woman reduce stress, do not make great efforts, make frequent and little abundant meals, and if it is necessary to take medication prescribed by the doctor to control vomiting.-

Premature bag rupture :It is the rupture of the amniotic bag before the probable date of delivery. In those rare situations in which it occurs (due to amniocentesis, infection ...) during the first and second trimester, el absolute rest is required
of the mother, who will lie down on the bed with the lower extremities elevated, and with intravenous antibiotics. In certain occasions it is reversed, and the break is repaired. - Threat of preterm delivery:

Occurs when, starting in the second trimester, the woman has changes in the cervix, as a consequence of contractions that may or may not be perceived by the woman. Relative restis recommended, not sexual intercourse, good hydration. If these measures are not controlled, it may be necessary to enter the hospital to stop contractions with medication. -Delayed intrauterine growth

: Occurs in the third trimester, when the ultrasound check shows that the baby is not growing correctly. When we suspect this, we recommend the womanto make relative rest
, to have a good diet, to stay away from stress (as it has been seen to be one of the causes that can delay the growth of the fetus). -Preeclampsia

: It is hypertension, bound to proteins in urine after week 20 of pregnancy. The only treatment is delivery
, but until the time comes the recommendations for the woman are the following: bed rest on the left side as long as possible, a lot of hydration, decrease salt intake, if necessary take medication to control blood pressure, go to regular check-ups with the doctor. Sara Cañamero de LeónMatrona
