There are children whose thinking goes faster than speech, and end speaking badly, disconnected and difficult to understand, when is a problem?

Many times we hear moms and dads say that their children think faster than they talk, and there comes a time when they are not understood. To what extent is it like that? Is this a problem in the language?

When the child talks in a hurried way and is not understood

The language development in the child goes through a series of phases or stages that do not occur in all children equally. Although the appearance and development of language occurs with remarkable regularity, it is influenced by environmental factors, maturational or both, so there are children who learn before others, without meaning a problem or a delay.

It may happen that when the child does not have enough resources at the level of oral expression, the child does not know very well how to organize and express their ideas and thoughts and can get a hasty speech, disorganized, and sometimes it is not understood very well what you want to say.

We must take into account the age of the child, it is not the same as this happens to a child of 4 years that a child of 7. It is necessary to understand therefore how the language develops in the child, on what pillars it is supported, and how it evolves in relation to other skills and abilities.

Around the age of 4-5, it is assumed that the children have already acquired a certain level of vocabulary, use phrases with complex structures, adjust the language to the context and the speaker, have already acquired all the phonemes, etc ... To be able to speak of a problem or difficulty in speech, we have to take into account other aspects and factors such as, for example, the level of development of the child.

There may be a time when there is a dyssynchrony in the little ones, in which their thinking goes faster and is more complex than they are able to talk, and there may be a rushed speech, they repeat words, and sometimes they are not understood. But this is not a problem, it is something evolutionary and over time this happens. The role of parents is fundamental, be patient, do not scold them or tell them that they are not understood, keep in mind that young children speak badly many times, do not speak with a child's language, help them organize their speech, etc ...

By Therefore, we can talk about certain difficulties that are specific to the child's developmental development, but when these persist, we may have a specific problem or difficulty in the language (dyslalia, stuttering, TEL, language delay ...), or it may be related to some other type of difficulty, (TDA-h, high capacities, maturational delay ...) and it will have to be analyzed and evaluated by the appropriate professionals.
