Patience is one of the most difficult lessons to teach children, and is that besides being impatient by nature and want something immediately, children do not understand the concept of time. For them five minutes, an hour or a while, it is an abstract concept that they can not understand, for that reason they insist again and again until they get what they are claiming.

In this way, and worth the redundancy, to educate in patience, parents have to have patience. Some guidelines and educational methods will help us in this task.

How to educate children in patience

The degree of maturity of the child is important in making them patient. A child in early childhood education, with a high level of selfishness and the need for all attention to focus on him, will cost more. In any case, it is important from the first stages and with affection to teach the value of patience to children:

1. The example of the parents is fundamental. If we lose our nerves before a small traffic jam, we express how much it bothers us to wait in line at a store or interrupt others when they talk, we can not expect our children to behave patiently in day-to-day situations.

2. When the child interrupts us while we talk or expects us to stop any activity to attend to him, we must remain calm and once we have finished what we do, talk to him so he understands why and in what situations he has to wait. If at this moment, we shout or scold you and then do not try to clarify why you have to be patient, your behavior can hardly change. Para 3. To teach you how to be patient we can start by

waiting for a moment before solving a problem siempre, as long as it is not an emergency, so that you understand that we will not be running every time you call. 4. If we want the child to wait, it is more beneficial to use concrete and non-abstract examples. That is, avoid saying 'in five minutes' and use 'when you pick up the toys' or 'when we finish dinner' so you can understand the time you have to wait.5. If we know that we will have to wait in places like the doctor's office or a car trip, we will bring games, stories or activities so that the child does not wait so long. Los 6. The board games with several participants or team sports, will help you understand that you have to wait your turn or have a role within the group and have to wait at the right time to put it into practice.
