Weaning, that is, the end of breastfeeding and the introduction of new foods in the baby's diet, is a matter of controversy and varies according to many aspects, from medical to social. When to stop breastfeeding The

World Health Organization

considers it essential to maintain exclusive breastfeeding, based solely on the mother's milk, during the first six months of the baby's life. Thereafter, it recommends continuing breastfeeding until at least 2 years of age, supplemented with other foods. According to the experts of the National Institute of Pediatrics of Mexico

(INP), weaning should begin as of the sixth month. They also recommend to mothers subjected to work stress that if they maintain a mixed diet once they are incorporated into their workplace, that they monitor their milk production, as it may suffer a decrease and affect the development of their child. Introduction of solid and semi-solid foods The change in diet and the introduction of baby food and solid foods into the baby's diet have also raised doubts among experts. According to the INP, there is evidence that babies who have eaten solid food during the first six months of life have suffered a higher incidence of diseasessuch as diarrhea.

In addition, experts believe that it is after six months when breast milk is no longer able, by itself, to meet the

nutritional needs of the baby. If we add to this fact that the child already has

developed his digestive system to support this type of diet and his neuromuscular abilities, such as being able to keep the head and trunk erect and increase the movement of his hands, it is recommended that is just after six months when the weaning process begins, so that the baby is also able to participate in their feeding.
