It is not the same accent as tilde. So that the children do not confuse them, they must first understand to correctly place the accent on the tonic syllable of a word. In this way they will get a better understanding of writing the tilde correctly when appropriate.

We explain the differences between accent and tilde and we tell you how to teach children to use accents well through play.

How to explain to children the difference between accent and tilde

1. The accent: The accent is the pronunciation given to a syllable distinguishing it from the others by a greater intensity, a longer duration or a higher tone. The syllable that has the highest tone of voice is called tonic, and the rest are unstressed syllables. The accent is sometimes written and sometimes not, but all words have a tonic accent. La 2. The tilde:

The tilde is an orthographic accent that tells us where the greatest force of the voice should be, it is always placed on a vowel and indicates the tonic syllable of a word, it has the shape of a slanted line and goes from right to left (') The accent is part of spoken language, and the tilde of written language. In the following examples the syllables highlighted in bold and capital letters are the tonic syllables:

piz,CA sa,ME sa, moTOR,MÚS ass, caMIno, petima,Ni ño, carTÓN.Children's games to learn to distinguish the accented syllable

1.

The game of clapping: For the children to become familiar we can play with them to give a pat, a jump, an agreed signal in the place of the syllable tonic of the chosen words, and explain that all the words have a syllable in which we raise the tone of voice. Exaggerating a lot by pronouncing the tonic syllable will help children differentiate it. 2.

Change the syllable tonic of place: We can also choose the same word and change the accent of place so that they see that it sounds different or that it does not have the same meaning. Note that depending on the place where the tonic syllable is found, the word

will be sharp (the voice load goes on the last syllable), serious (the voice load goes on the penultimate syllable), es (the voice charge goes on the third to last syllable) or overdrive (when the voice charge is on the syllable before the third to last syllable). And this will be the basis to learn how to correctly place the tilde. Poem to practice accent on the tonic syllable with children We can use this poem to explain to children the different meanings of the word by changing the place of the accent. For example, with the word doctor:

- Doctor: First person of the singular of the present indicative of the verb medicar.

- Medicó: Third person of the singular of the perfect past of indicative of the verb medicar.

- Doctor: 1. Dícese of that related to medicine or Person who practices medicine as a profession.

THE NAUGHTY ACCENT

He thought a naughty accent

that he was very bored,

that playing between the letters

could be fun.

Between the letters he jumped

knowing that his presence,

was extremely important,

to mark differences.

He put himself in a word

where it did not correspond,

and altered the meaning

looking for what he wanted.

On the first syllable

the doctor was found,

but jumping to the last

on acute it came back.

MediCÓ

On the penultimate syllable

with the i for a while he slept

and made the word

serious until he woke up.

MeDIco

After the third last

of another little jump happened,

and the word before grave

by esdrújula changed

Doctor.

And how it started it ended!

Acute, serious and es es es

depend on your presence

that is why it is so important

to be fixed and have patience.

To finish I leave you a sentence by José Alfredo Reyes: 'Something as small as an accent can make all the difference'.
