We often talk about the importance of having a good breakfast, and it is true that it is. The breakfast contributes great part of the energy that the children need to render of suitable form in the colgio.

But we must not forget the existence of a very important intermediate meal: the snack. Between lunch and dinner spend a lot of time, and it is not advisable to skip this meal.

Why snack is important for children

It is at this time of day, the afternoon, where children play extracurricular activities, some of which involve a high physical demand (sports: football, basketball, tennis, dancing, etc.). ) and others entail a remarkable intellectual demand (languages, painting, etc.) Both the muscles and the brain need the existence of a 'fuel', glucose, to perform properly.

Fortunately, this important food is taken into account in most Spanish households. It is estimated that 75% of children snack, especially the smallest. As adolescence approaches, they stop doing it (less than 50% of adolescents eat daily).

What should be the ideal snack for the children? Ideally, the snack should be rotated, and throughout the week all the needs and requirements of the child should be covered. A few days can take a piece of fruit, others a dairy, a sandwich of a good sausage (low-fat cold meats, Iberian ham, etc.), cereals with dark chocolate (which is antioxidant), etc.

Systematic consumption of industrial fruit juices, non-homemade pastries or sparkling beverages is discouraged.

But ... What percentage of the daily caloric count has to offer the snack? Approximately 15% This is: the snack must exist, but it must be light. And one last tip: flee from the monotony, and encourage yourself, fathers and mothers, to have a snack too.
