Chinese table

The Chinese table is used to predict the sex of the baby during pregnancy. It is a calendar to determine if the baby that will be born will be a boy or a girl, based on two data: the age of the mother and the exact month in which the baby was conceived. According to tradition, the Chinese table, if used well, hits 90 percent of the chaos. Many women, for generations, have also used this table to get pregnant with a baby of the desired sex.

Basal temperature

The basal temperature is the lowest temperature the body has after resting for at least 5 hours. With the basal temperature method you can know the fertile days in a woman's menstrual cycle. To make a table of basal temperature, the woman should take the temperature every morning at the same time, as soon as she wakes up and while she is in bed, and write it down on the corresponding date in a table, for at least a month. The basal temperature helps the woman to know her fertile days, both to increase the chances of becoming pregnant and to avoid pregnancy.

Apgar test

This is an evaluation test of a baby's vitality picture, just when it was just born. The score of the Apgar test is determined in three stages: at the minute of birth, at 5 and at 10 minutes. The heart rate, breathing, muscle tone, reflexes and baby's skin color are observed. When the score in any of the stages is very low, it is possible that the baby has to be observed in an incubator during the first hours of life.

Labor and delivery

There are signs or symptoms that indicate that labor will begin. This signal is called Labor, which consists of a series of continuous and progressive contractions of the uterus that make the cervix dilate and thin, to allow the baby to pass through the birth canal, and be born. In addition to this symptom, the rupture of the amniotic sac and the expulsion of some blood, mixed with a little vaginal discharge, may also indicate that labor begins.

Mucous plug

The mucous plug is a thick, brownish substance that is created by the secretions of the cervix at the beginning of pregnancy to prevent germs from entering the uterus, which can rise through the cervix and produce a infection. It works as a protective barrier, a sealing of the cervix, and is expelled days, weeks or hours before delivery, many times without realizing the pregnant woman. Usually, the mucous plug is not large and is a sign that labor is approaching.

Toxoplasmosis

Toxoplasmosis is a very common infection, transmitted and caused by a parasite called Toxoplasma gondii. The incubation period of the disease is approximately one to two weeks, and its symptoms are similar to those of the flu or those of infectious mononucleosis, characterized by fatigue, muscle aches, fever and swollen glands. The infection usually occurs only once in a lifetime and represents danger only when it is acquired during pregnancy because it can endanger the health of your baby, besides posing a risk for immunosuppressed people, that is, they are affected by diseases that they diminish their defenses against infections.

O'Sullivan test

Also known as a sugar test or a test of the curve, the O'Sullivan test is a medical test that takes place between the 24th and 28th week of pregnancy to find out if the pregnant woman has gestational diabetes. The test is performed by overloading sugar and analyzing the mother's blood.

Triple Screening

The pregnant woman undergoes a blood test to detect some abnormality in the growing baby. Specifically, this test detects the presence of three hormones: jcG, unconjugated estriol and alpha-fetoprotein. In addition to abnormalities, high amounts may also indicate a multiple pregnancy.
