This time we went to the region of Frigia to visit King Midas, a very miserly king who had a lot of gold but always wanted to have more. His greed came loaded with gold, but also bad luck.

The miserly King Midas with donkey ears

There was once a very miserly king who lived in the region of Phrygia. It was the king Midas, who had a lot of money, a lot of wealth and was obsessed with gold. One day he did a favor to a god and he granted him a wish. "Ask me what you want and I'll grant it," said the god. "I want everything I touch to turn into gold," said King Midas then.

Wish granted.

King Midas

was mad with joy because he played anything and immediately turned to gold. The wall of his palace, the chairs, the lamps, even the rugs were turned into gold if they were touched by the r e and Midas. But soon the problems came. It was at lunchtime thatKing Midas

sat at his golden table, with his golden plate and his golden fork. The moment he went to get a piece of bread, the bread turned into gold and when he bites it almost fell a tooth. The same thing happened with the water, which at the contact with Midas' lips turned the liquid into gold. Almost dying of hunger and thirst, so King Midas asked the god to forget the desire he had asked. The god was very funny watching how Midas, who so adored gold, had ended up hating him. So he withdrew his desire and things stopped becoming gold. But that greed required a punishment and suddenly King Midas came out with ears of a donkey

The hairdresser was not sure he could keep the secret and was afraid that one day he would accidentally escape. So he went to the bank of a river, dug a deep hole and whispered the secret in the hole. Thus the secret would be buried. He did not count on the fact that the earth gives back everything we sow. And in the place of the hole grew a huge rush

that doubled when someone passed and shouted to the four winds. - King Midas
