We like our children to learn history but we do not want it to be too boring for them. In Guiainfantil we are adapting Greek mythology in the form of short stories for the whole family to enjoy.

In this story is narrated one of the adventures of Ulysses, that famous Greek hero who took a long time to return from the Trojan War because of the great number of adventures he lived in the sea.

The encounter of Ulysses with Circe and his animals

The Greek hero Ulysses spent 10 years fighting in the Trojan War and another 10 years in returning to his home in Ithaca. And is that on the way back he encountered many dangers, he lived many adventures, as when he encountered the sirens and also entertained a bit, really.

Because Ulises was a very brave hero, but he quickly became confused and did not remember that his wife Penelope was waiting for him weaving and unraveling in his loom. During the return journey he had to make several stops on his boat to pick up food and rest and one of those stops was made on the island of Eea.

When barco Ulysses' ship arrived at the beaches of Eea, Ulysses let his sailors enter the island to find something to eat. A while passed and they did not come back and they spent more time and they still did not return. At dusk Ulises began to worry and thought that his sailors had had some problem until he suddenly saw a pig that was running to the boat. At first he thought about roasting the pig and preparing it for dinner, but when he stared at the animal he realized that he looked like one of his sailors. As Ulysses

was already accustomed to meeting magical beings, he knew right away that there was a cat in there. So he released the pig and let him guide him. The pig took Ulysses up a hill until they were standing in front of a beautiful palace. It was the palace of the magician Circe

and it was full of animals. In the palace gardens there were more pigs, but there were also dogs, cats, turtles, giraffes, lions and some crocodile. What a problem. Because Ulysses immediately knew that it was the magician Circe who turned all her guests into animals. Circe appeared at the door and invited him inside. - Ulysses

, welcome to my palace. He spends a moment to rest, "said Circe, and Ulises, standing there thinking that he could not cross that door, otherwise he would become an animal. - I will not enter. I know what you've done with my sailors, "said Ulises. And Circe

laughed out loud because seeing the sailors turned into pigs or turtles or lions seemed like a great joke. But Ulysses was not so funny and even less so his sailors.

- I'm sorry, I feel very lonely and I need company. If you go in and stay with me for a while to tell me stories of your adventures, I'll give you back to your sailors. That was the proposal ofCirce

and Ulysses agreed. He entered the palace of the magician and little by little the animals were transformed into people. Now it was up to Ulises to fulfill his part of the deal, so he started telling Circe

a thousand adventures. But the truth is that he was not alone for a while, but he passed without realizing

a whole year in the palace of the magician. Laura Vélez. Editor of Guiainfantil.com
