Arturo and the magician Merlin. Short stories

Once upon a time, in a kingdom called Britannia, Prince Arthur, son of King Uther, was born several centuries ago. His mother had died shortly after the birth, so the king delivered the baby to the faithful wizard Merlin, in order to educate him. Merlin decided to take Arthur to the castle of a gentleman, who had a small son named Kay. For the prince's safety, the magician hid the identity of his protégé. Every day, the loyal Merlin taught little Arthur all the sciences and, with his gifts as a great magician, he explained the inventions of the future and many more magical formulas. Tale of the wizard Merlin for childrenThe years passed and King Uther died without leaving any known offspring, so the knights went in search of Merlin:

- We have to choose the new king - they said. And the magician, making appear a sword nailed to an anvil of iron, said to them:

- This is the sword Excalibur. Whoever manages to get it out will be the king!

The knights tried one by one but, despite all their efforts, they could not move it.

Arturo and Kay, who were already two vigorous young men, were going to participate in a tournament in the city. When he went to the event, Arturo noticed that he had forgotten Kay's sword at the inn. He ran there but the place was already closed. Arturo despaired. Without his sword, Kay would be eliminated from the tournament.

He thus discovered the Excalibur sword.

He pulled her and a ray of light fell on him, extracting it easily. Kay saw the seal of the Excalibur and told her father, who ordered Arturo to return it and so put it back in the anvil. The nobles tried to get it out again, but it was useless. Until Arturo took the hilt again, a ray of light fell, and he extracted it without any effort. Everyone admitted that the young man, without any title, should be the king of Britain

; and they marched before him, swearing allegiance to him. Merlin, happy and humble for his actions, retired to his home. But it was not long when a group of traitors took up arms against the young monarch. Merlin intervened, confessing that Arthur was the only son of King Uther; but the disloyal ones continued in war until, finally, they were defeated, thanks to the value of Arthur and to the magic of Merlin. To prevent the betrayal from repeating itself,Arturo created the great round table

, composed of knights loyal to the kingdom. He married the Princess Geneva, living years of happiness and prosperity. - You can reign without my advice, - Merlin told him in his farewell - and still a fair king, that History will reward you.
