Narcissus the vain and the echo that is repeated

There was once a very handsome boy called Narcissus. His parents were so eager to have their baby that from the day he was born they constantly told him how handsome he was. And it was true, Narcissus was a beautiful and resplendent child. Both his parents told him how handsome and how smart it was that the child ended up believing him too much and became a vain pres conceited. Then he started to stop playing with the other children because they were not as handsome as him. Narcissusspent the afternoon alone. After school he went to a forest pond to look at himself in the water because there were no mirrors at that time. He squatted on the edge of the pond and stared for hours at his reflection in the crystal clear water - "How handsome I am," said Narciso. And the others also thought that Narciso was very, very handsome. One afternoon a nymph of the forest called

Eco approached over there and found Narcissus looking at himself in the water.-How handsome you are, do you want to play with me? Eco said to Narcissus. But Narciso did not want to play with anyone. He just wanted to look at himself. So he threw the nymph Eco out of the pond in very bad ways. Eco walked away to his cave from where he could see the

presumed Narcissus in the pond. And then he came up with an ingenious trick to play with Narciso without him noticing. Every time Narcissus said to himself - how handsome I am - Eco repeated -oy, oy -. And if Narciso said -guapo - Eco repeated - apo, apo

-. This echo confused Narcissusand he thought it was the water that repeated his words. So he ducked a little more to see who was talking to him and fell into the water. In the place where Narcissus fell into the water was born a beautiful flower that bears his name so that everyone could contemplate its beauty.Laura Vélez.Editor of Guiainfantil.com
