The newborn's skin is so delicate that dermatological problems affect the vast majority of babies. Some of these skin diseases present risks and others are harmless, but that does not scare the newly released dads any less. This is the case of erythema toxic, a rash of newborns that presents no risks but many sleepless nights.

What is the toxic erythema

Toxic erythema is a skin condition that occurs due to unknown causes and does not involve any risk to the health of the baby. It is a fairly frequent skin problem, since it affects one in three newborns and can appear within a few hours of birth or arise after a few days or even a few weeks. Its appearance frightens the parents of the newborn, but in reality it does not need medical treatment.

These skin rashes are usually small granites with a yellowish or white color, reddening the surrounding area. They appear mostly on the face of the baby, the trunk and extremities and the pustules appear and disappear in different areas in a matter of hours. The toxic erythema disappears by itself in a few weeks and the doctors insist that they do not present complications.

But that toxic erythema does not require medical treatment does not mean that parents should not worry about the appearance of these rashes. At the time of its appearance, the baby must be taken to the pediatrician so that he can rule out other skin lesions that may lead to complications for the baby's health.

Other skin conditions in the newborn

Toxic erythema is not the only skin condition in newborns. Acne, milia and dermatitis infantil are almost as common as erythema, but they all disappear on their own or, in some cases, with simple medical treatments. Other skin problems of babies are newborn spots and hemangiomas, as well as spider veins. Before any

alteration of the skin of the baby it is necessary to go to the doctor, although it is not necessary to be alarmed since they are normal, frequent and contracted cutaneous problems. But in any case we must bear in mind that the skin of the baby has to undergo many changes, so it is advisable to wait a little before the first bath of the baby and not exceed in applying soaps or creams.
