It is considered that there is a problem of sterility or infertility when it has not been possible to have a live child, after a year of sexual intercourse in order to procreate.

Relationship between endometriosis and infertility

Both men and women have multiple causes, and the causes of the inability to have children in the studies to which couples are subjected can even be ignored.

The factors that can be cause of female infertility are multiple, among which we highlight: hormonal alterations, alterations in the fallopian tubes, alteration in the cervix, factors related to lifestyle (stress, poor diet ... ), alterations in the uterus ...

In women, one of the factors that can influence their ability or not to get pregnant is a disease called endometriosis. It is thought that between 30-50% of women who are not able to have children suffer from it to some degree.

Causes and symptoms of endometriosis in women

It is likely the cause of endometriosis is the migration of endometrial cells from their normal location (inside the uterus) to other locations. They sometimes stick to the ovaries or other pelvic organs. These clusters of endometrial cells outside their normal site cause endometriomas, which have the ability to flake off cyclically, as they do in the uterus, causing bleeding (menstruation). The symptoms of endometriosis range from being an asymptomatic processto an intense and disabling pain during menstruation pasando, going through long and abundant periods or pain during sexual intercourse. There is no correlation between the symptoms and the degree of the disease. Sometimes it is recommended to operate before starting a fertility treatment.

Why endometriosis causes infertility in women 1. Endometriosis can block, move, cover or alter the relationship that exists between important fertility organs such as the fallopian tubes, ovary and uterus, since it generates adhesions that can reach clog the tubes.2. There is a hypothesis that indicates endometriosis as a cause of infertility by producing

ovulation or hormonal

pneumoniae.

3. Because it generates problems of implantation of the embryo, since some women with endometriosis have a deficiency of proteins called integrins, necessary for implantation.4. Produces

immunological alterations . Some of the immunological response mechanisms such as the production of antibodies (IgA and IgG) and defense cells (lymphocytes) are increased in the endometrial tissue of women with endometriosis, causing disminución a decrease in the implantation capacity. In addition, this increase in antibody production causes some women with endometriosis to develop autoimmune diseases.
