During pregnancy, major changes occur in the body of women, in the vast majority of devices and systems. One of the most striking are the circulatory changes. They entail a great increase in blood flow to the reproductive organs and the genital area, to allow not only the growth and development of the future baby but also to prepare these structures for the moment of delivery.

Due to this, the vessels that take care of said irrigation of the blood, sometimes are dilated, producing a venous insufficiency. That's when pelvic congestion occurs.

Symptoms of postpartum pelvic congestion

Among the symptoms associated with this problem, we find:

- Abdominal, or pelvic heaviness

- Abdominal or perineal pain

- Abundant and / or painful rules.

- Very frequent is also the feeling of 'weight' in the abdomen

- Problems in sexual relations, especially color after intercourse, which usually appears in the first 24 hours after it.

Diagnosis and treatment of pelvic congestion

Through a careful medical examination. Painful palpation of certain points in the abdomen, changes in the cervix such as pain to mobilize and edematous appearance, or the presence of vulvar varicose veins, among others can guide us on this syndrome.

There are several alternatives to treat it, mainly pharmacological treatment and surgical treatment, which seems to yield better results especially in the long term. In it is about decreasing blood flow to the area, through the ligation / obliteration of some of the vessels that contribute most to the area.
