Getting around with children is always complicated, especially if we do not know the city. That is why it is important to plan well the tourist visits and how we are going to access them if we organize a trip to London with children.

While it is good to walk around to see yourself in the city's environment, you have to know when you can use the buses, the tram or the London Underground, very useful options that allow you to travel a long distance for an economical price.

Public transport in London

Metro

The London underground is one of the best known in the world, and the characteristic symbol that marks the stations has become an icon.

It is one of the most extensive underground networks in the world, has 274 stations and 408 kilometers of tracks, and is nicknamed as 'Tube' by Londoners.

It has 12 lines, it is advisable to take a map of the subway in order to pan the routes and get acquainted with the routes and not make mistakes of direction or taking deviations that leave us the desired destination.

The London Underground operates from 5:30 in the morning and ends at 0:30. On Sundays the hours are from 7:30 to 23:30.

The city is divided into concentric zones, and the price of the ticket varies according to the number of zones that we cover. The simplest has a value of 4.30 pounds for adults and 2.10 pounds for children up to 11 years.

If we are going to spend several days in the city, it is best to opt for a card that allows us to make several trips more economically, the Oyster Card.

The Visitor Oyster Card is a card that is valid for periods between one and seven days, with prices that vary according to use, areas and number of days. Children pay a lower rate, and all prices can be found on the official website of the transport network in London.

Bus

Buses are a less rapid option but surely more fun for children, since they will allow us to enjoy great views.

The classic red double-decker buses run throughout the city and allow you to relax and travel comfortably for 1.5 pounds (single trip) or 3.5 pounds for the whole day, plus we can also use the Oyster Card. Children under 10 years old can travel for free.

The lines cover the extension of the city of London and the thousands of stops have very complete informative posters.

Other means of transport with children

There are other options such as taxis or bicycles, which can be rented in different parts of the city. Another alternative is to rent a car, but we must bear in mind that the rules of circulation of the United Kingdom are different from those of other countries as they circulate in the left lane.
