Introduction of food in children from 0 to 2 years old for months

Early Childhood comprises the first 2 years of life, and is characterized by rapid growth, which progressively slows down from birth .

During this period the diet must cover the high energy and plastic needs, and provide a balanced supply of vitamins and minerals, adapting to the child's limited digestive capacity.

Phases in the feeding of babies in the first months

1. Period of lactation: In the first months of life there is only one food capable of fulfilling the baby's food requirements: breast milk.

2. Transitional period: Starting at 4 months of age, you can start with dietary diversification, which is the introduction in the diet of the infant of foods other than milk progressively, whether liquid, semi-solid or solid

3. Modified adult period: From the year of age, foods with a thicker texture should be included in the diet of the child to get accustomed to chopped meals. It will begin with crushed food with the fork, to be changed to small pieces. The goal is that at 18-24 months the child will eat chopped food with a texture just like adults.

The diet should be balanced, varied and individualized to ensure optimum growth and development, without forgetting a good learning of eating habits that can prevent some adult diseases. In this period there is the appearance of taste towards food and eating habits develop.

The introduction of food should be done little by little and each food separately so that your baby gets used to the different flavors and textures. The ideal is a new food every week, to make it easier to get used to and assimilate and tolerate without problems. In this way, you will be able to identify any possible allergy or intolerance.
