During the course there are situations in which students experiment with different emotions: joy, sadness, anger, fear, surprise ... The way to deal with all these emotions is to apply Emotional education in the classroom because it can be very useful for students.

In the moments that laughter appears on the part of the students or the teachers, it helps to produce group cohesion. Thus, these moments of "laughing together" can be used to work on emotional intelligence and specifically the emotion of joy.

But, what happens when another behavior appears that is not seen as well socially as crying, what should the teacher do when the student cries in class?

What happens when a student cries in class

Unlike what happens with laughter, crying can be seen as a problem. When crying, the student is seen as the cause of the interruption of the class. As this is socially frowned upon, what happens is that immediately it is about avoiding the problem by making the child leave class. The opposite of what is demanded is to propose a solution. Thus, the opportunity to work on basic emotions such as anger or sadness is lost. Many centers tend to manage emotions instead of educating them, and that is where the first of the mistakes usually appears. An emotion that is managed is an emotion that works "after", that is, when it has already happened. What should be tried to teach the emotions so as to be able to face them with predisposition when they are happening.

When trying to teach emotions, what we do is

transform the concept of emotional intelligence where emotions such as anger or sadness manifested by crying are no longer seen as a problem, but as a learning opportunity for both the student as for the group. What we can do before the child cries in the classroom

Teaching emotions, therefore, is better than managing them and that is why it is important that we work "a priori" with the student. What the teacher should do when the student cries in class:

Prevent . That is, prepare and give behavior patterns to children when they cry or see some of their classmates cry. That the group has an "action protocol".-

That they live it . Use some of the classes to make a session in which all students can remember and share with the rest of the group some time they have cried.-

Group dynamics . They are very important to work all kinds of emotions in a group.-

Break stereotypes . Crying has the same importance for a boy and a girl. We must put aside sexist behavior.
