Placing children correctly inside the car can reduce death by up to 75% and head, neck and abdomen injuries by 90%. Child restraint systems are essential for travel, even so, there are many mistakes we make in their placement.

In Guiainfantil.com we tell you some of the most common mistakes when it comes to insuring our children.

What you should never do in the car with the children

1- Carry a 12-year-old child in the front seat: in many countries age does not count to be able to carry children in the front seats, but height; Only those who exceed 1.35 meters can travel in the front seat of the car. There are three exceptions: In the event that all rear seats are occupied by children in the same conditions, in two-seater cars, and in the case that it is not possible to install all the necessary seats behind.

2- Carrying babies in their arms with our own safety belt: A very common mistake that poses a danger to both the adult and the child as, in case of braking, the adult will push with his body child, who runs the risk of hitting the front seat or the dashboard. The baby must wear a restraint system after leaving the hospital.

3- Put the group 0 chair in the direction of travel and in the front seat: The safest seat inside the car is the back and in the center, since there the child is more protected from frontal blows and laterals. The chairs of group 0 must be placed against the march, in addition, if they go in the front seat the airbag must be disconnected.

4- Place the safety belt on the children with the two bands below the arms: Many parents think that the belt will choke the child in case of a collision, however, this practice is very dangerous because that in case of lateral blows or overturning, the child can get out above the belts since there is nothing that holds him. In a belt it should be placed with the upper band over the shoulder and above the sternum, and not touch the neck or pass under the chin; and the lower band on the bones of the hips and not on the stomach.

5- Loosen the harnesses of the chairs so that they do not squeeze the child: The harnesses should be without gaps, tight and on the shoulder, but they will not do their function well.

6- The head of the headrest must not protrude: This is a sign that the chair has become too small and must move on to the next group. It is necessary that the head in case of a blow is protected by the sides of the car seat.

7- Passing the elevator too early: The lift is more comfortable to put on, and it weighs less if you have to transport it from one car to another, but do not forget that the backs of the chairs reinforce the protection against side impacts, and the head suffers less impacts.

8- Do not install the chair correctly: Many times with the rush we forget to check that the seats are perfectly placed, especially those that do not have Isofix system. If a chair is loose, the weight of the chair will push the child forward in the event of an accident, which will be more dangerous even if it does not carry anything. It is very important that the chair is correctly positioned.
