Autumnal menu for children with lactose intolerance
Do not forget that in the menu of the child lactose intolerant must include other alternative sources of calcium, such as salmon, sardines, prawns, cabbage, or spinach. Very important for the correct development of the child
Lactose intolerance produces symptoms such as pain and abdominal swelling, diarrhea, flatulence, cramping, vomiting or nausea. They usually appear between thirty minutes and two hours after having eaten foods containing lactose, and disappear between three and six hours later.
In the case of a child with lactose intolerance, it is very important that both parents and the child:
- Know which foods incorporate lactose (milk, sausages, pâtés, margarines, ice cream, sauces, some sausages, cereals enriched, instant soups and prepared meals).
- Learn to read the labels on packaged food to check whether a food is lactose-free or not, and warnings such as "may contain traces of milk".
- Know lactose-free dairy products, as there are milk brands that market ranges of lactose-free products, which may make it easier to partially or completely exclude milk from a diet.
- Experiment in the kitchen and look for lactose-free recipes that can be prepared at home.
