A baby's room should not be the same as that of an 8-year-old child. In both cases, children do not have the same skills or the same needs.

The Catalan interior designer Susanna Cots (Girona, Spain), gives us a series of tips to decorate the child's room according to their age.

The two basic principles for decorating the nursery

As many psychologists and educators say, children are small but from an early age they are forming character and know what they want. That is why it is advisable to listen to them to the fullest, since it is their space and they are more creative than we think. Adults should advise and guide them to create a harmonious space.

In the case of babies, obviously, we should be the ones who organize their room according to their needs, but from a certain age, we can ask the children for their opinion.

The interior designer Susanna Cots reminds us that there are two principles that we must respect when designing a children's room: Que 1. Prioritize the child's autonomy

or girl, no matter how old she is. Que 2. That never encourage violence , the exaltation (which often transmit the strident colors), or disorder.

Tips for decorating the child's room according to their ageBased on these principles, you can write down these tips according to your child's growth stage:

- From 0 to 3 years old:

Comfort for parents and interaction with the family. The room has to be comfortable for parents, without singing and with elements to interact with the family (with armchairs, mirrors, stories, low light, light colors ...). If it is a play area, it should also be designed with spaces for its height and to teach them how to order their toys.

- From 3 to 7 years old:The importance of small things. In this stage you usually save everything, especially the small, which makes them very funny. The storage, both of toys and stories, will be key at this stage.

- From 8 to 15 years old:The room becomes a completely timeless and evolving space. We went from more things (toys that require a lot of storage) to less things and more books, music ... In short, independence and personality. Always betting on light colors and decorative props that advance with the stage. A - After 15 years:

we enter the dreaded adolescence where every room is a world, like every adolescent, who seeks privacy and consolidates his own personality. As for design, it is preferable to continue with white and with more serious color shades, accompanied by personal walls with drawings or photographs. It is a stage that combines memories and future projects and the design should reflect it.Susanna Cots.
