We always talk about the strong emotional bond that means to read a story to our children, the bond that is established between parents and children is very important for the development of children.

We sing and talk to newborns as if they understood us. Our presence and our voice reassure them, they get used to it and listening to it gives them security, so why not extend that pleasant moment for the baby? Why not read them a story?

What kind of stories to choose for babies according to their age

Today we can find in bookstores specialized stories of all kinds and for all ages, even for babies.

- From 3 to 12 months: After three months a child starts to laugh and show signs of interaction. A little later they watch us closely, if we sing to them and we gesticulate with their hands, 'the five little cubs', for example, even try to imitate us. When they are older they manage to keep objects in their hands. There are stories for those ages with very striking illustrations, fundamental in this stage, and colorful to get the attention of the little ones, neither too big nor too small. Stories with voices and noises that help children to know their environment, for example, there are animal books that at the push of a button, make the horse whistle or the dog barks, with which little by little the child will discover the world that surrounds you. It is very important that these books are made of soft material, be it plastic, cloth, etc. soft texture, that has no tips with which the child can hurt, or toxic material, because the child will safely take it to the mouth.

- From 12 to 36 months: As of the year, more or less, you can choose stories that have very short texts so that they become familiar with the letters, so little by little they will learn while playing. As they grow, we can add more text and more images.

Ideal for this stage children are stories with rhyme for its repetition and sonority. When they reach three years old, they will surprise us by learning and reciting children's poems that we did not think they were capable of.

I leave you a very short children's poem to read to your children. If you have more than three or four months, you can accompany the text with exaggerated gestures and making the sounds that the different animals emit, surely they will pay you more attention.

ANIMALITES

Bullet the sheep,

the cow muges, la the dog barks

behind the cat.

Croak the frog,

the dormouse sleeps, la the cat meows

behind the mouse.

I end with a phrase from 'The Little Prince' (Antoine de Saint Exupéry): 'All the old people were at first children (although few of them remember it)'.
